Interface design for the measuring device from Vemaventuri
For our client Vemaventuri, we developed a new interface design for the SONO measuring device, which is used to measure the water content in fresh concrete on construction sites. Our solution was designed to meet the requirements of everyday construction site use, including quick and easy operation.
The modern touch display of the measuring device is complemented by three buttons, ensuring that all functions remain intuitively accessible. The result is a user-friendly interface that significantly enhances the ease of use of the SONO measuring device in demanding conditions, thereby increasing efficiency on construction sites.

The SONO measuring device has been designed to offer maximum user-friendliness on the construction site. The touch display and three buttons have been optimized for the UX, and 27 screens have been created in just two months to enable efficient and precise measurement of the water content in fresh concrete.

Control all functions with just three buttons
The SONO measuring device is equipped with only three buttons, ensuring a highly simplified operation. The challenge is to make all functions intuitively accessible without disrupting the user flow.

The user flow has been designed to ensure that each step branches into a maximum of three functions, thus simplifying navigation. The design features a consistent button bar and a clear, functional button layout, making operation intuitive and efficient, even in fast-paced construction site environments.

On-site, the system must be straightforward and user-friendly, with a strong emphasis on rapid learning. Simultaneously, lighting conditions, such as direct sunlight or fluctuating light and shadow, pose a significant challenge to the design.

Clear design, high visibility
The implementation of consistent design elements and clearly defined main functions ensures efficient and intuitive operation. To guarantee optimal visibility even in challenging outdoor lighting conditions, high contrasts are employed. Key elements are designed to be large and prominent, ensuring the system remains reliable and user-friendly in any environment.
The development of the SONO user interface followed a clearly structured, user-centred approach to enable intuitive and efficient operation under demanding conditions.
At the beginning of the project, a workflow diagram was created – a schematic representation of work processes and main functions. The goal was to make all actions accessible via the three available buttons, and to enable users to continue working quickly with simple confirmations by making use of predefined main functions. Next, wireframes were developed. These basic sketches of the screens helped define the content and structure of the interface. The process was tested and optimized using a clickable prototype, in order to ensure seamless usability.

The final screen designs follow the Vemaventuri color scheme of black and white, with abstract vector elements visualizing the measurement process and the underlying sensor technology. To create a clear separation between the menu and the functional area, the intro loading screen and menu are entirely black, while all other content is displayed in white. A button bar, consistently placed at the bottom of the screen, highlights the main function and allows users to quickly proceed to the next step with a simple confirmation.
The result is a user-friendly and visually clear interface, perfectly tailored to the demands of its operational environment.
